Fog of war map for everyday driving
Remember fog of war from strategy games? TripTrack covers the whole world in fog and clears it as you drive. Every kilometre is a new discovery.
What is a fog of war map?
Fog of war is a video-game mechanic: the map is hidden under dark fog until you explore it. In TripTrack it works the same way — the world map starts covered, and the fog clears only where you have actually driven.
That turns every drive into a small expedition. A different route to work uncovers a new neighbourhood; a road trip cuts a whole strip out of the fog. Over time the map becomes a picture of where your life has actually taken you.
The number under the map is the length of what is open — not the sum of your trips. Your hundredth lap around your own block opens nothing, and a map that counted it would be flattering you instead of telling you something.
How it works
The whole world in fog
On the first launch the entire map is covered. You start from nothing — like a new game.
Drive, and the fog clears
Every recorded trip burns a corridor through the fog. The more you drive, the more of the world is yours.
See what is left
Open the Atlas and look at the blank spots. They are the best route planner there is.
Find what is out there
After a recorded trip, discoveries such as passes, lighthouses, border posts and ferries leave a seal on your atlas.
